We began our work in the United States at the height of the Cold War with a handful of employees, a tiny budget and a big mission: to change the way the world deals with conflict. Our founder, John Marks, understood that we could change the world by destroying the old systems. So he set about building a new system. Instead of looking at conflict from a win-lose perspective, John founded Search for Common Ground to introduce a new concept: we're all “winners” when we focus on what we want to achieve, not what divides us.
Search for Common Ground strives to transform conflict into cooperation, bringing diverse groups together to find inclusive and sustainable solutions to the world's toughest challenges.
With over 40 years' experience, partnerships in more than 35 countries and recognition as the world's largest non-governmental peacebuilding organization, we transform today's most difficult conflicts into opportunities for progress.
